Top Patentees in Canada 2013

BlackBerry tops the list of owners receiving the most Canadian patents during 2013. The others in the top five were Qualcomm, Schlumberger, P&G and LG Electronics. Approximately 23,800 Canadian patents were granted last year to about 9900  applicants.

According to my analysis the owners that received the most patents in Canada in 2013 were the following (totals approximate; based on first listed owner):

  7. Microsoft Corporation – 132 patents
  8. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. – 124 patents
  9. Baker Hughes Incorporated – 121 patents (tied)
  10. Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. – 121 patents (tied)
  11. Airbus Operations SAS – 112 patents
  12. Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. – 105 patents
  13. F. Hoffman-La Roche AG – 98 patents
  14. Xerox Corporation – 97 patents
  15. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.- 87 patents (tied)
  16. Colgate-Palmolive Company – 87 patents (tied)
  17. Novartis AG – 84 patents
  18. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. – 81 patents
  19. Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha – 77 patents

I prepared similar lists for 2012 and 2011, which also identified BlackBerry/Research In Motion as the top recipient of Canadian granted patents.
