Judicial Appointments

The Honourable Michael Manson, a lawyer from Smart & Biggar has been appointed to the Federal Court. Appointments were also made to the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court, and courts in British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

Today’s judicial appointments were announced by the Department of Justice.

Michael Manson, practising primarily intellectual property litigation at Smart & Biggar’s Vancouver office was appointed to the Federal Court. He replaces Justice Campbell who became a supernumerary judge in 2011.

Justice Wyman Webb formerly of the Tax Court was appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Appeal.

Also today, two judges were appointed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, three judges to the Superior Court of Quebec, three to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, one judge to the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan, one judge to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador and one judge to the Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba.

According to the announcement, all appointments are effective immediately.

Also finalized today was the appointment of Justice Richard Wagner formerly of the Quebec Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
