Top Canadian Patentees for 2012

Research In Motion tops the list of owners receiving the most Canadian patents during 2012. The others in the top five were Qualcomm, P&G, Schlumberger and LG Electronics. Approximately 20,000 Canadian patents were granted last year.

According to my analysis the owners that received the most patents in Canada in 2012 were:

  2. Qualcomm – 211 patents
  3. Procter & Gamble – 187 patents
  4. Schlumberger Canada Limited – 151 patents
  5. LG Electronics – 150 patents
  6. Honda Motor – 127 patents
  7. Baker Hughes – 109 patents
  8. F. Hoffman-La Roche – 104 patents (tied)
  9. Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki – 104 patents (tied)
  10. Pratt & Whitney Canada – 100 patents
  11. Samsung Electronics – 95 patents
  12. Microsoft – 92 patents
  13. Airbus Operations SAS – 85 patents
  14. General Electric – 80 patents
  15. SNECMA – 78 patents
  16. Halliburton Energy Services – 77 patents
  17. Novartis – 72 patents
  18. SMS Siemag – 66 patents (tied)
  19. Weatherford/Lamb – 66 patents (tied)
  20. Ethicon Endo-Surgery – 66 patents (tied)

I prepared a similar list for 2011, which also identified Research In Motion as the top recipient of Canadian granted patents.
