Justice Peter Pamel and Justice Nicolas McHaffie were appointed to the Federal Court on May 6th – news release. Justice Pamel was a partner at BLG practicing primarily in the area of maritime law. Justice McHaffie was a partner at Stikemans focusing on intellectual property, public law and administrative/regulatory litigation.

Justice Marianne Rivoalen was appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal today. She replaces Justice J.M. Woods, who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective April 1, 2018. Prior to today’s appointment she was Associate Chief Justice of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba (Family Division). Two new judges were appointed to the Federal Court today. Justice Elizabeth Walker was the Chairperson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police External Review Committee and Justice John Norris was a sole practitioner based in Toronto.

Kathleen Marie Ring has been appointed as a Prothonotary of the Federal Court. She replaces Justice Lafrenière, who was appointed a judge of the Federal Court in June.

Justice Sébastien Grammond has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court. He replaces Justice S.B. Noël, who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective September 1, 2017. Justice Grammond was a professor and former dean at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law.

Justice Shirzad Ahmed was appointed to the Federal Court on Friday. In other appointments, Justice Ian Nordheimer was elevated to the Ontario Court of Appeal and Justice Barbara Fisher elevated to the BC Court of Appeal.
